I found it interesting and can testify 1st hand to the dismissive attitude some folks have about diabetes. Calling it the Rodney Dangerfield of illnesses is right on. Instead of seeing it as a disease that can blind you, take a leg or foot, cause a heart attack, or cause a stroke, people seem to think you take insulin or other medications and everything's fine. That's not necessarily true and the constant monitoring you need to do to remain in control becomes a never ending part of your life.
